civilians is a new york band that asked nu to design their first record, pencil factory.

they supplied as material a series of photographs of the band on studio and on the city.

the central piece of the record became this 720 x 480 mm poster, that came in a paper box together with the envelope, which contained the cd.

on the poster, we overlapped, in different colors, two of the photographs given to us by the band: a train nearing the station and a man leaning over a balcony.

all the other pieces we designed in a simple and clean way.  

on the poster's back, the lyrics and credits.  

the poster was folded in a way that the reading started by the presentation of the band and the acknowledgments.

we made an ingenious design for the box that contained the poster and the envelope, but we had a problem with the cover.

all the project went well, but suddenly when time came for the cover (naturally the last thing) the leader of the band thought the design had to 'sell', and started having a series of ideas which had nothing to do with the rest of the project.

we tried hard to convince him – we designed over 40 proposals for the cover! – but in the end the cover of the record isn't ours.
